** Birding At Home. Day 2. **

Well after another night of snow, and waking up to see it still coming down, there was only one thing for it, day 2 of birding at home, but first of all there was a small matter of getting out the back garden, clearing some of the snow away from the feeding area's and putting out their breakfast. Once that was done it was just a matter of getting myself comfy at the kitchen window.
It was snowing quite hard and I felt as if I was fighting a losing battle, the snow was definately winning, I can't remember how mant times I went out to re-clear the feeding area's.
Anyway back to the birds, Most of the birds seen today was the same as yesterday, but there was some moments that made me forget about the dam weather. the first was at lunchtime when I had a break from looking out the back and I checked the tree's out the front on the circle, and straight away i saw lots of birds on the cherry tree. After checking it I counted 22 Blue Tits, 17 Chaffinch, 6 Long Tailed Tits, and 2 Great Tits. I was hoping that there might be something special in with them, but alas there wasn't.After returning to the view the back garden I saw a  male Great Spotted Woodpecker fly in to feed on the nuts.

Then for the rest of my afternoon watch nothing different appeared, and I thought that was it, but I was wrong,  There was to be 2 more  species add to my garden list. The first being a pair of Long Tailed Tits( in the photo they are close together)
and the second species was the one I was hoping might turn up with the Chaffinch's and that was the Brambling. When I did see it I wasn't really prepared, as I didn't have my camera ready, so I was now hoping it would hang around while I went to get it, anyway I did manage to get a couple of shots of it, admtittidly not very good ones.

I will finish with a list of todays sightings along with a few pictures thrown in for good measure.
H/Sparrow, Dunnock,Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Starling, W/Pigeon, Great Tit,
                                                                               Robin

                                                                   Collared Dove.

Reed Bunting
Magpie
Chaffinch

The only other species seen was a distant Sparrowhawk(ingoring my birds today) B/H/ Gulls, and
many Herring Gulls.
At the end of writing this post I can say that it is still snowing, and we are now at about 18 inches and counting.

  3. Nice shots, Ken. I was just telling Dennis that we need to get more birdseed tomorrow before our snow starts tomorrow night. I doubt we will get as much you! Stay warm, Wilma

  5. A craker for the garden list Ken, I was hoping for one myself - a reed bunting would be just as rare for me though :-)

  6. Well done on the Brambling, I had lots of them visit the garden for weeks and weeks a couple of Winters ago before I had the camera :( and never seen any since :(

I have never had a GSW in the garden so I am very envious of that and the Reed Bunting of course.

Hope you are managing in all that snow, still not much here.
